FROM MAURY COUNTY COMMISSIONER SCOTT SUMNERS:

“Typically, I stay silent when it comes to other election races because I believe voters should decide for themselves who they think will do the best job. Every once in a while, though, I feel strongly enough to make an exception. That's the case this year, and it's why I'm proud to support Maury County Mayor Sheila Butt for re-election.

Over the past few years, I've had the opportunity to work with Mayor Butt on a lot of issues affecting Maury County. I've gotten to know her not just as our County Mayor, but as someone who genuinely cares about this community and the people who call it home.

Sheila is someone you can trust. She takes the time to build relationships, brings people together, and knows how to work through difficult issues without creating unnecessary conflict. That's not always easy, especially with how fast Maury County is growing. She's worked hard to move important projects forward, including getting updates to the County Powers Relief Act through the General Assembly. She's also worked closely with our county departments on updating our zoning regulations and getting the process started for a new Maury County Comprehensive Land Use Plan. These accomplishments will have a lasting impact on Maury County for years to come.

As Maury County continues to grow, we need experienced, steady leadership that brings people together, listens to different perspectives, and focuses on practical solutions. Mayor Sheila Butt has demonstrated those qualities time and time again.

I've seen firsthand the time and effort she puts into this job, and I appreciate that she works for the entire county and not just one community or one group of people.

I'm proud to support Mayor Butt for re-election as Maury County Mayor, and I hope you'll join me in voting for her.”

Thank you Scott. You are an outstanding Commissioner and I look forward to working together for the next four years keeping Maury County the best place to live, work and raise our families in Tennessee! #TeamMaury

“When you run for office or first get elected, you never know who you can trust, confide in, or have as a mentor. Sheila Butt was on a very short list of folks I was advised to reach out to. Without a doubt, it was one of the best pieces of advice that I ever received as Sheila is 100% trustworthy, thoughtful, and passionate about helping her district, county, and Tennessee.

To further vouch for Sheila, as an anesthesia group, we were interviewing a doctor that knew her. I asked her about him and that reference was all I needed as that doctor was hired and is now my partner.

Folks in Maury County, it was your best decision to elect Sheila Butt as mayor and reelecting her would be another great decision.”

DANNY GROOMS

CHAIRMAN OF THE MAURY COUNTY COMMISSION

“I’ll be honest—I hate what politics has become. The ugliness. The division. The constant “I’m this, you’re that” noise that drowns out what really matters. Somewhere along the way, it stopped feeling like service to the community and started feeling like something else entirely.

But I still believe in what it’s supposed to be.

It was never my life’s ambition to run for office. I didn’t set out chasing a title. I stepped forward because I care about this community, and I was entrusted—by you—to serve. That’s something I’ve never taken lightly.

The other night, in a late conversation with a local attorney, Dustin Kittle, I was reminded of something important: who I serve, and why every single voice matters. In the middle of all the noise, that grounded me again. So Dustin—thank you.

I’m not perfect. Not even close. I’ve made mistakes. I’ve had to make tough calls with incomplete information. And yes, I’ve cast votes that weren’t popular. But every single one of those decisions came from a place of trying—honestly trying—to do what I believed was best for the people I represent.

I’ve never claimed to have all the answers. What I can promise is this: I’ve listened. I’ve shown up. And I’ve done my best to carry the weight of the responsibility you gave me.

Election season is here, and with it comes the chaos, the criticism, and the noise. That’s part of it. This is not an effort to gain your vote. If I haven’t done that already through my actions, then it’s time to send someone else.

To everyone who has supported me—thank you. Truly. And to those who have challenged me, pushed me, and yes, even given me a kick in the pants when I needed it—thank you for caring enough to hold me accountable.

That’s what makes this community strong. And that’s worth fighting for.”

Maury County Commission District 9

As the August Election Draws near, I would like to make a statement about leadership from our current Mayor Shelia Butt. Mayor Butt has shown tremendous leadership, and I will give you a few examples.

When Mayor Butt took office in 2022, she was greeted with an Animal Shelter that was in very rough shape. Mayor Butt hired Kim Raffauf and now we have one of the most respected Animal Shelters in the South. Mayor Butt has also hired Matthew Turner at the Department of Solid Waste. The Solid Waste Department is in very good hands. After the retirement of our long-term Maintenance Director, Mayor Butt hired Matt Hill. Our Building Maintenance Department is in good hands.

Mayor Butt did not have any experience in how Animal Shelters work. She did not have any experience in Solid Waste. She did not have any experience in facility maintenance. She used her leadership skills and her ability to put good people around her to guide her decisions on these hires.

If you are having trouble deciding on who to vote for as your 2026-2030 Maury County Mayor, just ask your County Commissioner. IF electing our next county mayor were a resolution (it is not, but if it were), and voted on by the 22 commissioners from all 11 districts, I believe Mayor Shelia Butt would be elected by a Super Majority of her peers.

Thank you.

Now get out and VOTE for Sheila K. Butt, County Mayor and

Kevin Markham for County Commission (District 9)!
